A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly attacking a woman when she woke him up.
A deputy responded to a battery allegation at an undisclosed Wildwood residence around 1:27 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with 42-year-old J A C who stated he was at the residence when the female victim began slapping him to wake him up. He stated she was using her hand to tap his face when asked to explain how she was slapping him, the report said.
The deputy then spoke to the victim. She initially gave verbal testimony advising that she went to the residence to meet with C. After she woke him up, he started to batter her, pointing in her face and causing a small abrasion there. He then pinned her down with his body, the report said.
Injuries were present on the victim, including an abrasion on the right side of her face, fresh abrasions on both her elbows and redness around her neck area. She tried to change her testimony to say that no physical altercation occurred. She also stated she did not have the money to bail C out of jail, the report said.
Based on no corroborating stories in this allegation, the deputy could only use physical evidence on scene which showed C was the primary aggressor that physically battered the victim. The arrest was made due to the injuries being consistent with the victim’s initial testimony, the report said.
C was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). The Ohio native was transported to Sumter County Jail.
