A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly pushing his elderly mother to the ground and battering her.
Officers responded to an undisclosed Leesburg residence to assist EMS with the mother of 51-year-old M, who had fallen around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Medical personnel stated she had been smoking marijuana and drinking, while dispatch advised they could hear yelling in the background of the call. This person stated someone was trying to kill them, the report said.
Upon arrival, the officers were told by the mother that M had pushed her to the ground and battered her by hitting, kicking and strangling her. She could not articulate whether she could breathe. She was quite emotional and cried while trying to explain the situation to law enforcement, the report said.
The officers then spoke to M, who stated no physical altercation had occurred. He added that he had been drinking, and he took medication for PTSD, neurological and psychological disorders. Dispatch advised that he had two prior battery convictions as well, the report said.
M was later told the accusations and asked whether any of it was true. He stated that because of where he was sitting in the living room, there was no possible way he could have done that. He held that his mother fell, and he called the police because he did not want to get in trouble, the report said.
The Massachusetts native was arrested on charge of battery on a person 65 years of age or older (domestic). He was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
