The woman killed in a shooting in Leesburg early Tuesday morning has been identified as 23-year-old C, the police department announced on Wednesday.
C was shot and killed as she attempted to enter a neighbor’s home at approximately 4:43 a.m.
Police said C lived in the same Leesburg neighborhood as the residence she was allegedly trying to enter, about two to three blocks away.
The shooter, who has not yet been identified, just moved into the home in May of this year and did not know C.
C’s roommate said C had been drinking and left her residence upset. That’s when C, for unknown reasons, tried to gain entry to another home in the neighborhood.
Police said their investigation has been consistent with the shooter’s account of what happened. Cuts on C’s arm were consistent with cuts from reaching through the door glass.
The shooter heard C trying to enter and repeatedly told her to leave. He also warned her that he was armed, police said.
Leesburg police said C continued attempting to gain entry, at which point he fired a handgun through the door, breaking the window. That’s when she reached through the broken window in an attempt to open the door from inside.
The homeowner fired a second time, striking C and killing her, police said.
Leesburg police said they are also awaiting further results from the Medical Examiner’s Office regarding toxicology and other evidentiary findings.
