A Lehigh Acres woman was arrested on Monday after being accused of a hit-and-run crash and attacking multiple dogs.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a hit-and-run crash at around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Loyola Avenue and Vesper Court.
The other driver involved in the crash reported that a woman ran a stop sign, hit their vehicle, and then ran from the scene on foot into a wooded area, LCSO said.
Soon after the crash, deputies received a call from a homeowner about a mile from the crash site who said that a woman matching the suspect’s description was trespassing on his property and washing herself in his swimming pool, LCSO said.
The homeowner said that when he confronted her, the woman proceeded to hit, drag and kick multiple dogs. A total of three dogs were attacked, LCSO said.
Deputies arrived on the scene and saw the suspect, DS, 21, walking along the roadway.
“This was a disturbing and completely unprovoked attack on innocent animals,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior, and we will hold this woman fully accountable for her careless actions.”
S was arrested and faces charges on three counts of aggravated animal cruelty and leaving the scene of a crash.
LCSO said that none of the dogs sustained serious injuries.
