A Clermont woman was arrested for battering four staff members at LifeStream because she did not want to change her pants.
An officer responded to LifeStream, located at 2020 Tally Rd., regarding 34-year-old DLS battering staff around 12:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Staff members were holding her down even though she spat on them.
Upon arrival at the women’s unit in the facility, the officer saw multiple staff members still holding S down to give her medication. She was awake and breathing but refused to answer any questions, including if she was okay. About five minutes later, she got off the floor and headed into a common area. She stated she would continue to harm others at the facility unless she was released from her police hold, the report said.
All four of the victims advised that the incident began when Sgot upset because her belt buckle was not allowed in the facility, and a nursing assistant asked her to change into approved clothing. She instead started yelling at staff, threatening to hurt them and anyone who tried to take her pants. She then took her pants out of her backpack and threw them at a registered nurse, the report said.
S was also confronted about forks she had been keeping from her meals, which posed a safety risk to staff and other patients. She ultimately walked up to the registered nurse and punched her left arm multiple times. She also shoved her into a wall, which hurt the nurse’s elbow, the report said.
She continued swinging at staff and hit the nursing assistant on the left arm at some point. She next went up to the nursing supervisor, grabbed her by the neck, pulled her closer and spat in her face. The supervisor was able to break free and stepped away, the report said.
Other staff members got S into a team hold, brought her to the floor and gave her medication. As a nursing technician grabbed her, she spit in his face. Still, the staff members gained control of the situation and held her down until the police arrived shortly after, the report said.
A criminal history check conducted later revealed S had two prior convictions for battery, the report said.
S was arrested on four counts of simple battery (law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT, etc.). She was transported to Lake County Jail where she was released on her own recognizance, making her responsible for appearing in court on Jan. 20.
