A fire on Thursday at an apartment complex in Daytona Beach was blamed on a lightning strike, according to the fire department.
Units responded to Lake Forest Apartments at 600 Jimmy Ann Drive, where occupants reported hearing a loud bang before the fire began, the Daytona Beach Fire Department said on social media.
Smoke and fire could be seen coming from the roof of an apartment building upon firefighters’ arrival, according to the post. They entered and searched the building while deploying hose lines to the roof and using saws to reach more of the fire for extinguishment, the post states.
No injuries were reported and Florida Power & Light was on scene to secure power to the building, according to the post.
Two apartments sustained fire, smoke and water damage, leaving nine people in need of assistance from the Red Cross, according to the fire department.
