A late-night inferno engulfed a shed in Fort Pierce, prompting a response from firefighters who determined the blaze was sparked by a lithium-ion battery.

The St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) said that on Wednesday night at 9:50 p.m., crews were sent to a structure fire in the 2900 block of Old Dixie Highway.

Upon their arrival, firefighters reported encountering a 20×20-foot shed that was completely engulfed in flames.

The report states that SLCFD firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.

According to SLCFD, investigators later determined that the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
