Local businesses burn in Cape San Blas fire

Local businesses burn in Cape San Blas fire

A Cape San Blas staple caught fire early Sunday morning.

Gulf County Fire Rescue officials were called to the Cape Tradin’ Post at around 6:45 Sunday morning, Mike Barrett, South Gulf County Fire Rescue fire chief, told NewsChannel 7.

“Upon arrival, I found three-fourths of the front building on fire already into the roof,” Barrett said.

Karah Bradley grew up going to the trading post, she told NewsChannel 7.

“I actually turned the road at the stump hole and saw the smoke and then it kinda hit me and then of course getting up here to it was like ‘Oh wow, 25 years of my life have been connected to this building.’”

Bradley’s parents, who run Beach Realty of Cape San Blas, rent from the Tradin’ Post, she said.

The destruction leaves the community at a great loss.

“There’s a ton of people who have been connected to this business and this building, so it means a lot to this community,” Bradley continued.

Marissa Schneck worked at the Tradin’ Post for the past eight years, she said.

“And especially my bosses and my coworkers and just really hurt about all this,” Schneck told NewsChannel 7.

Local authorities report there were no deaths or injuries from the fire. Traffic was backed up in both directions to allow local fire rescue teams space to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown, local authorities said.
