A Lyft driver is facing charges after he allegedly shot at his passengers Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the scene at Spring Villas Circle in reference to a shooting. They discovered two brothers, one who had been shot and the other attempting to render aid.
The third person, 33-year-old R R-C, had his hands and a firearm on the hood of an SUV, OCSO said.
The brothers told law enforcement that they were in a verbal argument with their driver. The two of them told deputies that when they exited the vehicle, the driver got out and began shooting at them.
One of the brothers was shot twice, in the abdomen and foot. The other brother was not shot, deputies say.
According to OCSO, R-C became upset that the two brothers slammed his car doors.
When deputies attempted an interview with R-C, he requested a lawyer. Surveillance video, in addition to the OCSO’s helicopter footage, corroborated the brothers’ recount of the incident, leading to the driver’s arrest.
R-C is charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and waived his first court appearance on Thursday.
A judge did not grant him bond and ordered that he have no contact with the victim or any witnesses in the case. He is also told he cannot have any firearms.
A state prosecutor asked that R-C not be allowed to return to his line of work, and the judge agreed that he is not to work as a driver for hire.
