Man, 48, dies in crash on I-295 in Duval County

A 48-year-old man from Jacksonville died in a crash Sunday on Interstate 295 in Duval County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the crash happened around 2:49 p.m. near Mile Marker 61B.

According to troopers, the 48-year-old man was driving a sedan in the left middle travel lane, and a pickup truck was traveling in the right middle travel lane.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 40-year-old man from Jacksonville, told troopers that while driving in the right middle travel lane, he saw the sedan coming in his rearview mirror.

As the driver of the sedan was passing the pickup truck, he lost control of the car, the FHP report states.

While trying to regain control, the right rear of the sedan struck the front left of the pickup truck, and was then redirected to the right shoulder of I-295, troopers said.

According to FHP, the sedan’s left side struck the guardrail, and the car ended up in a ditch.

The 40-year-old pickup driver and his passenger were uninjured.
