A man was arrested Friday after police said he attacked another person after allegedly being called “gay” outside a Miami-Dade convenience store.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a battery call at Dolphin Food Market, located at 2352 NW 46th St., where they found the victim with a cut near his left eye.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said medics transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he received stitches.
According to the victim, the altercation began after he exited the food mart and noticed a man, who deputies identified in an arrest report Monday as 31-year-old AAB, following him.
The victim said after feeling “uncomfortable,” he exchanged words with B before the suspect suddenly attacked him, an arrest report stated.
After being read his Miranda rights, B, who is listed as homeless in his arrest report, told investigators that the victim “constantly antagonized him and provoked him by calling him gay,” deputies wrote.
B also claimed that the victim spat on him before the altercation turned physical, authorities said.
He also made some type of confession that was redacted in the publicly released report.
Jail records show B is facing one count of aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
As of Monday, he was being held on a $7,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
