Man accused of battering 3 children arrested after hours long standoff in Tamiami: Sheriffs

Man accused of battering 3 children arrested after hourslong standoff in Tamiami: Sheriffs

A man accused of slamming his 5-year-old son in Tamiami and hurting his two other children Saturday afternoon was taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside an apartment, deputies said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the scene at the 2000 block and Southwest 122nd Avenue.

An arrest report said that the father, identified as 33-year-old BM, was taking care of the three children and got upset with his 5-year-old son and slammed his head against a concrete wall three times, which caused a laceration that needed five staples.

The child was taken to the hospital by rescue crews and suffered a frontal hematoma.

M then threw his 2-year-old child on the concrete floor and hit his back, the report said.

After the 2-year-old was thrown, the report said, M’ 8-year-old child tried to render aid, which upset M and he punched his face.

The 2-year-old and 8-year-old were treated at the scene and released to their mother.

After the 5-year-old was transported, M barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to get out.

SWAT teams used loudspeakers as they attempted to coax the father out of the apartment.

Several people were outside, standing on their balconies as they waited to see how the situation would end.

“Working with children and having a child of my own it’s very scary to feel a parent did this to a child,” said a resident.

“I heard police talking through the speaker, so I came out to see what had happened,” said a resident.

M eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

He is facing charges of child abuse.
