More than six months after a woman was battered outside of a nightclub in Downtown Miami, detectives arrested a 27-year-old suspect.
A woman told detectives she was at Mama Tried, at 207 NE 1 St., to celebrate a friend’s birthday on April 27, when she walked out to answer her phone and a man she didn’t know targeted her.
JR first “grabbed” the woman’s butt without her permission and later punched her in the face with “a closed fist,” according to a Miami police officer’s arrest report.
“The victim stated she was stunned and unaware of her surroundings after the punch,” a Miami police officer wrote, according to the arrest report.
R’s “acquaintance pulled out a firearm, racked the slide, and aimed” at the witnesses who intervened, according to the arrest report.
R and his “acquaintance” fled, and the victim was left bleeding and required stitches on her face while at the hospital, according to the Miami police officer’s arrest report in the case.
Detectives talked to several witnesses and received videos and photographs before tracking down R and arresting him at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, near the South Miami Heights neighborhood, records show.
R, who lives in Miami-Dade’s West End area, appeared in bond court on Saturday. A judge ordered him to stay away from the victim and set his bond at $6,000, records show.
Court records show Rfaced charges of second-degree felony aggravated battery and first-degree misdemeanor battery.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Tanya Brinkley was set to preside over R’s case.
