Man accused of DUI, crashing into car in North Fort Myers

A man is accused of DUI and crashing into a car in North Fort Myers on Tuesday.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to reports of a crash on the corner of Pondella Road and North Tamiami Trail at around 11:01 p.m.

The deputy arrived on the scene and saw a red Chrysler Sebring with the driver, NC, 26, still in the driver’s seat. The deputy also saw a blue Hyundai Sonata with the driver standing on the side of the roadway.

The deputy spoke to the driver of the Sonata, who told him that she had been driving north on North Tamiami Trail and was waiting to turn left onto Pondella Road. She said the light turned green and that she began to make her left turn when the Sebring, driven by C, drove through the intersection and crashed into the front end of her car, LCSO said.

A witness corroborated the victim’s story. She was medically evaluated at the scene and then transferred to a nearby hospital, LCSO said.

The deputy then spoke to C. While speaking to C, the deputy noticed he had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech, LCSO said.

The deputy had C perform standard field sobriety exercises, which he failed. C was placed under arrest and transported to Lee County Jail.

At the jail, C submitted a breathalyzer test, which revealed his blood alcohol content was 0.255, LCSO said. C was transported to the hospital for further evaluation, and after being medically cleared, was taken back to the jail.

C faces charges of DUI with a BAC of 0.15 or higher and DUI with damage to property.
