A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting the mother of his child during a custody exchange.
Officers responded to an alleged battery involving 30-year-old B.L.J at a Leesburg residence at 7:25 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
The female victim advised that she came to the residence to pick up her one-year-old daughter from J, the father. When she got there, J’s mother approached her, and a verbal altercation ensued. The victim informed her that she was there to get her child in accordance with a court order, the report said.
J then came up to the victim and indicated he would facilitate the custody exchange. Once this was done, the dispute escalated. She tried to leave, at which point J allegedly jumped onto the hood of her vehicle and struck her on the left side of her mouth. She sustained a swollen upper lip and red lacerations inside her mouth, the report said.
The officers next spoke to J who stated he told the victim to step away from his mother during the dispute and that he would handle the custody exchange. He claimed that after handing the child to the victim, she said she would not return her. This prompted him to jump onto the vehicle’s hood. As he fell off, he tried to hold onto the vehicle to break his fall, the report said.
His mother confirmed the victim arrived to pick up the child. She saw J give the child to the victim and saw her hit him before leaving. However, he had no visible injuries, the report said.
J was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
