Man accused of punching Chili’s employee in Miami, knocking 5 front teeth out

A 20-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he punched a Chili’s employee in the face at the restaurant’s Bayside Marketplace location in Miami, knocking the victim unconscious and causing the victim to lose five front teeth, authorities said.

According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, the attack occurred around 7:15 p.m. Sunday at the Chili’s at 401 Biscayne Blvd.

Police said witnesses escorted an officer to the garage area where the suspect was allegedly attempting to flee and told the officer that the suspect’s family members told them they would shoot them if they continued to follow them to their vehicle.

According to the arrest report, additional officers responded to the garage and they ordered all of the occupants out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Police said the suspect, MB, of Miami, exited the car out of the rear passenger side of the vehicle.

He was then detained and placed in the backseat of a police vehicle.

According to the report, officers reviewed surveillance video from inside the restaurant which shows B walking up to the victim, who was bussing tables, and punching him once in the face, causing the victim to fall to the floor and lose consciousness.

Police said B then stood over the victim while clenching his fist.

According to the report, B’s family members told officers that he suffers from some kind of disorder, however B denied suffering from any mental illnesses or learning disabilities.

Police said he declined to speak with officers about what had occurred.

B was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

According to the report, the victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police said the victim lost five of his front teeth due to the punch.

A motive for the attack remains unclear.

As of Monday, B was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where his bond was listed in online jail records as “to be set.”
