BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. —
A man was arrested after he was accused of punching a delivery driver in Bonita Springs Tuesday.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s arrest report, Derrick Michael Elmore, 38, was accused of stopping a delivery driver while he was on his bike, then punching the door, window and driver before holding the vehicle, a blue Honda Odyssey, around 5 p.m.
Deputies said the incident happened on Southern Pines Drive. They reviewed the 911 audio, and it was revealed that Elmore and the driver both called about the incident.
The report states that during the 911 call with Elmore, he reportedly said, “I got the car stopped,” ” I got his door held open,” “I will continue to close his door if there is help on the way, “and whatever, if I get in trouble, I get in trouble.” The dispatcher explained multiple times to Elmore he could not detain the subject in the vehicle, and the dispatcher said, “Are you still holding and keeping him there? And is your bike still in front of the vehicle?” Elmore’s response was reportedly, “Do I need to close it or what? And yes.”
During the 911 call with the driver, the driver stated, “He won’t let me out of the car and is holding my door,” and at one point, the driver told dispatch, “The male went to the rear of my vehicle and is speaking on the phone.”
The driver told deputies that he delivers for SpeedX and was making deliveries in the area when Elmore was trying to get his attention. The driver said he stopped, and then Elmore had the driver roll down the window, according to the report.
That’s when Elmore is then accused of punching the door, window, and driver before holding the vehicle, the driver said in the report. Elmore is also accused of moving his bike in front of the driver’s vehicle, deputies said.
Elmore was arrested, and he is facing charges of kidnapping – false imprisonment of a person and burglary with assault or battery.
