A man could be spending a long time behind bars after he and two other culprits were accused of stabbing and beating an acquaintance outside of a Miami-Dade supermarket just over a week ago.
The victim told police he was leaving T&C Supermarket, located at 3094 NW 95th Street, on his bicycle around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 15, when he was struck on the right side of the torso by Lewis Washington, 53, of Miami, according to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Police Department.
After falling off his bike from the impact, the victim stated that he immediately stood up and then grabbed Washington, who was armed with a knife, the report stated.
Following a tussle, the victim told police that he and Washington fell to the ground at which time another person, who was also armed with a knife, began to attack him, investigators said.
The victim said he began kicking the unknown person to defend himself as he continued fighting with Washington on the ground, according to police.
The victim told police that during the fight with Washington, a third unknown person took his bike and fled in an unknown direction, the report stated.
The victim told detectives that he was stabbed by Washington multiple times during the fight, authorities said.
Police said shortly after the attack, the victim walked to a friend’s house where his friend called the police. Washington and the two other culprits fled the scene after the attack.
Investigators said the victim identified Washington as one of the culprits who stabbed and robbed him through a single photo.
Authorities said Washington was taken into custody by MDPD’s robbery intervention detail Tuesday without incident.
While being interviewed by detectives, Washington gave a full verbal confession of his involvement in the incident, according to his arrest report.
According to jail records, he is facing one count each of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and armed robbery with a deadly weapon.
As of Wednesday, Washington is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Washington’s arrest report stated that he and the victim are acquaintances but a motive for the attack remains unclear.
