A man is accused of threatening to kill his wife and children, hitting multiple cars, and barricading himself inside his home Thursday night.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 9:57 p.m. to a report of a crash near Piper Boulevard involving a vehicle that struck several parked cars and a building.
When deputies arrived, they were told the driver had run away and was inside a nearby home.
The CCSO said deputies responded to a disturbance call along Kirtland Drive in the Willoughby Acres community at approximately 10 p.m.
It said JRI, 42, made threats with a gun and refused to leave, leading deputies to call in the SWAT team.
The CCSO’s aviation video, posted to its Facebook, shows the suspect going out the back door of his residence and setting items on a grill on fire.
After a period of negotiation, he came out of the home peacefully and was taken into custody.
According to the arrest report, I argued with his wife about divorce proceedings and reportedly became jealous over a male co-worker and confronted her while she was on a stationary bike in the garage.
The report states that he approached her with a gun, demanding access to her phone. He then kicked her in the chest, knocking her off the bike, and during the altercation, the gun discharged near her ear.
The sheriff’s office report states that I forced her into their SUV at gunpoint. While driving, deputies said she tried to activate the emergency SOS feature on her phone, but I noticed, and another altercation ensued.
She was able to disarm him and escape the SUV. She ran toward nearby homes as I pursued her in the vehicle.
The woman told deputies that she was able to jump a fence into a backyard and get help from residents. She also told the CCSO that I threatened to kill her, their children and himself during the incident.
The children barricaded themselves in a room, cut a window screen and escaped through the window.
The standoff ended around 3 a.m.
I was taken to Collier County Jail. I is facing five felony charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony.
