A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly attacking his girlfriend when she asked what he was doing at an apartment complex.
An officer responded to a local apartment complex, regarding a battery in progress around 9:10 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Dispatch advised that 32-year-old JRB was fighting with his girlfriend in front of the apartment complex laundromat. They had separated but started struggling again.
The officer arrived on scene to see the girlfriend sitting near the front entrance of the apartment’s laundromat area. She seemed to be out of breath. A witness began pointing to her and stated B took off into one of the apartments, the report said.
The officer spoke to the girlfriend who stated B left the residence that morning and said he was going to pick up his son. She texted him to let him know she was leaving the house but got no reply. She later left a gas station in Lady Lake and saw his vehicle, so she called him. Again, she got no answer, the report said.
She parked at the apartment complex, began to walk toward the laundromat and saw B leaving an apartment. She asked what he was doing there, at which time he became aggressive and attacked her. She dropped her phone in the struggle and tried to pick it up, but he grabbed her again. Another woman came out of an apartment, and he became more excited and aggressive with her, the report said.
The officer saw red marks on the girlfriend’s arms, legs and torso area. She stated she was choked but did not stop breathing as “it only lasted a second.” He did not see any marks consistent with being choked on her neck. She advised that all marks and bruising were from B’s hands when he touched her that day, the report said.
The officer then talked to the witness who stated she was in the laundromat and looked out the window to see B “body handling” his girlfriend. She intervened, telling him to stop touching her and that she was calling law enforcement. He instead began to force his girlfriend into a gray vehicle in the parking lot. He repeatedly put his hands on her during the initial call, and when the officer got there, he went into an apartment with another woman, the report said.
Officers then tried to make contact with B at the apartment. One of them took the back door and saw him walking away from the scene. He was ordered to stop and was placed in handcuffs, the report said.
B did not initially say anything other than he did not do anything. When told he was under arrest for battery, he stated he did not want his girlfriend to go to jail. He claimed she came to another girl’s apartment to fight, but he was not going to let it happen. She swung at him, hitting him in the face, when she saw him walking down the sidewalk, the report said.
He stated he had been dating his girlfriend for a while. Any time they had issues, or he did not answer, she would show up at the apartment complex to see if he was there. He did not sustain any injuries, the report said.
B was subsequently arrested on charge of battery (domestic) and transported to Lake County Jail to be held without bond.
He was also arrested in Nov. 2024 for trying to interfere with the arrest of a family member.
