A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly punching his neighbor when confronted about selling narcotics to his sister.
An officer responded to a battery involving 68-year-old JMB at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 6:10 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
B advised that he went to his neighbor’s place to discuss rumors being spread about him. When he got there, the neighbor stepped out before he could even knock on his door, and a verbal altercation ensued. The neighbor was in his face, threatening to beat him down, so he tried to walk away, the report said.
The neighbor then grabbed his shirt, causing it to tear, and spat in his face. That was when B punched him several times to get away. As this happened, his wife, the neighbor’s girlfriend and another neighbor ran over to break up the fight. He proceeded to walk away and returned to his residence, the report said.
The officer relocated to the neighbor’s home to hear his side of the story. He stated he was having a verbal argument with his girlfriend about B selling narcotics to her and her sister. He went to B’s residence to talk to him about it but was unsuccessful. He went back to his own place and met B outside shortly after, the report said.
They got into a verbal altercation which led to B punching him several times. The neighbor was able to get away and called the LPD about the battery, the report said.
The neighbor sustained blood on his lips, a small mark on the left side of his nostrils and a small mark on his right lower abdomen. The other neighbor who broke up the fight provided surveillance footage of the incident that showed B hitting the neighbor in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, the report said.
B was determined to be the primary aggressor and arrested on charge of battery. The North Carolina native was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
