A man was arrested last week after he crashed his van into a cement column outside the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Hammocks station and then threatened deputies and sergeants with a hammer, authorities said.
According to an arrest report obtained Monday by Local 10 News, the incident occurred just after 7:40 p.m. last Friday at the station located at 10000 SW 142nd Ave.
Detectives said a deputy was working at the front desk when he heard a “loud crashing sound” outside.
The deputy then looked outside the glass windows and doors and saw that the station’s identification sign, which is made of aluminum and plexiglass, was no longer upright and the live wires on the two metal anchors were exposed.
According to the report, two deputies and a sergeant raced outside and saw the white van that had crashed into a cement column and its driver, AF, 30, of Miami, standing several feet from them, armed with a hammer and “giving a dehumanizing stare towards the three law enforcement officers.”
Authorities said F took “an aggressive/fighting stance,” prompting two of the law enforcement officers to draw their guns and one deputy to draw his Taser.
The deputies ordered F in English and Spanish in drop the hammer, but he refused, the report stated.
According to the report, two additional sergeants arrived as backup and also pulled out their weapons.
Deputies said F eventually lunged at the deputies while holding the hammer above his head in an attacking manner, prompting two of them to deploy their Tasers, one of which made contact, incapacitating F.
F was then taken into custody.
According to the report, he was first transported to Baptist Hospital in West Kendall before being taken back to the Hammocks station where he invoked his right to remain silent.
He was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, attempted aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting an officer without violence.
As of Monday morning, F was no longer appearing in the online jail database.
