Man arrested after woman found stabbed to death in her car

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities in Miami-Dade County announced an arrest in connection to a fatal stabbing.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Joy Chandra Nath was arrested and charged after a woman was found stabbed to death.

Deputies said the grandmother of a 3-year-old child reported that the child had been found wandering around in the parking lot by a neighbor, and that the child appeared to have dried blood on her face and clothes.

It happened on Saturday in the area of Southwest 144th Street and 134th Avenue at approximately 3:54 p.m. in southwest Miami-Dade.

As deputies attempted to locate the child’s mother, they said they found her in her car, where paramedics pronounced her deceased.

The victim has since been identified as 24-year-old Maria Camila Garcia-Molina.

According to officials: “What appeared to be a human body covered in blankets on the rear floorboard … the victim had sustained sharp force injuries to her neck, torso, and upper extremities.”

Family members noted Nath is the ex-boyfriend of Garcia-Molina, that he had a history of stalking and a past temporary restraining order against him.

According to an arrest report, Nath arrived at the crime scene after midnight with his headlights off. Investigators said they observed “scratches on his arms, face, and neck.”

Authorities said Nath then “spontaneously stated that he had the victim’s belongings with him and that he was going to return them to her,” and told police, “Can you guys tell me what happened because I saw her this morning and it was all good.”

Detectives said they arrested Nath at the scene. During questioning, reportedly told investigators he had breakfast earlier that day with Garcia-Molina and her daughter but kept her purse and phone.

Sylvia Galvis, a resident in the area, described the heavy police presence Tuesday morning.

“There was police trucks, cars, CIS everywhere all over here. Closed off there with yellow tape — all around,” she said.

Jail records show is facing one count each of second-degree murder and child abuse.

As of Monday morning, he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
