Officers arrested a man months after a 72-year-old woman was found dead in her swimming pool in Ocala.
Ocala Police Department officers say M R, 50, was charged with second-degree murder and evidence tampering in connection with the death of his girlfriend, D G, 72, on December 28, 2025.
According to investigators, R called 911 around 7 a.m. to report finding G dead in the pool at her home on Northeast Sixth Street that morning.
Detectives say R’s statements were inconsistent, and evidence, including surveillance footage and phone records, showed R was at G’s home the night before she was found dead.
The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled G’s death was a homicide and noted evidence of strangulation.
Investigators found no evidence of anyone other than R and G in the house before her murder. R was arrested in Jacksonville and is expected to be extradited to Marion County.
G was the owner of Wolfy’s of Ocala, a diner on East Silver Springs Boulevard. Family members, coworkers, and friends expressed shock when they learned of her death late last year.
“We extend our deepest condolences to D G’s family, and we thank Detective Grosso and the staff involved for their dedicated, thorough work on this investigation,” the police department stated.
