Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol have arrested a man accused of running away from a fatal vehicle vs. bicyclist crash in Collier County.

Troopers say that SJMV, 22, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe west on State Road 29, approaching Hancock Street.

They add that a pedestrian on his bicycle was travelling south, attempting to cross the westbound travel lanes of State Road 29. They say that the front of the vehicle collided with the bicyclist.

FHP says that the bicyclist sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on Jan. 10.

Post collision, they add, the Chevrolet became disabled and V ran away from the scene.

V was later located by troopers who placed him under arrest for leaving the scene with death. He was booked into the Collier County Jail.

FHP says that the crash remains under investigation.
