Man arrested in deadly Lake Mary hit-and-run, police say

A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Lake Mary, according to the police department.

The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. Tuesday near W. Lake Mary Boulevard and Wheelhouse Lane.

“There was another vehicle,” the 911 caller who witnessed the crash said. “The gentleman that hit her drove away”

According to LMPD, officers responded to the scene and located an unresponsive driver.

“My mom’s checking her pulse and she says she can’t find a pulse,” the 911 caller told dispatch.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. She was later identified as 42-year-old D, of Oviedo, according to police.

Another man got on the 911 call and provided dispatch with a suspect vehicle description.

“Is it a sedan, SUV or pickup?” dispatch asked.

“It’s a silver car,” the man replied.

“Do you know which way it went?” dispatch said.

“It pulled behind the Winn Dixie,” the man said.

Police said they located the suspect and his vehicle less than a half mile away from the crash scene near W. Lake Mary Boulevard and Forest Boulevard.

The suspect driver was identified as 22-year-old R of Longwood.

R was arrested and transported to the Seminole County jail after midnight. He is being held on no bond.

R is charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash involving death and vehicular homicide.

Court documents and the police report were not yet available on Wednesday afternoon to explain why officers suspected R was driving under the influence.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance before a judge on Thursday afternoon.

This remains an active investigation.
