Months after an 18-year-old woman was killed in a shooting in North Lauderdale, authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing.
Tyler Mobley, 23, was arrested in Sunrise Monday on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting of Bryanna Nina, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said.
The shooting happened the night of July 15 near the 1000 block of Southwest 76th Avenue.
Nina had been with one of her sisters at a friend’s house and they were outside waiting on an Uber to go home. Detectives said that’s when people got out of a car and started shooting.
Nina was shot several times and died at the hospital.
Detectives identified Mobley as one of the suspects and a warrant was issued for his arrest, officials said.
Mobley was booked into jail and faces several charges for probation violation.
Florida Department of Corrections records show Mobley had been given probation in January on multiple charges including fleeing and eluding, carrying a concealed firearm and burglary.
Nina’s mother, Marisol Rivas, said she has a feeling of relief after Mobley was arrested for her daughter’s murder, but the pain hasn’t gone away.
“I’m grateful, I’m grateful because a lot of parents don’t even get that justice at the end but still very sad that I still don’t have her, that I still can’t bring her back,” Rivas said. “I am just glad that justice is being served.”
Nina lit up a room and had a vibrant personality, she said.
“He killed an innocent person who had her whole life ahead of her, and for what? Was it really worth it to take someone’s life away that young?” Rivas said. “I feel a lot of anger towards the person, I just feel like it was senseless.”
Rivas said she has a lot of mixed emotions but she’s finally getting justice for her daughter.
“It’s not a day that goes by and I feel like a void is missing but just dealing with it day by day,” Rivas said. “It’s still not going to bring her back but bringing awareness and him in jail definitely, it’s a start.”
Detectives told Rivas that her daughter was not the intended target of the shooting.
