Man dies after being struck by off-duty JSO officer’s vehicle in New Town neighborhood

A man in his mid-40s died Saturday morning after being struck by an off-duty Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office police officer’s vehicle on his way to work in the New Town neighborhood.

JSO said at 5:21 a.m., the officer was traveling west on Kings Road in a marked police vehicle when the man walked out and was struck by the car.

News4JAX received surveillance video from a nearby home that captured the incident. However, due to the graphic nature of the video, it will not be posted in this article.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue said the man died at the scene.

This is the 157th traffic fatality in 2024 and the 43rd involving a pedestrian, according to JSO.

JSO shut down Kings Road from Whitner Street to Myrtle Avenue Saturday morning for about an hour, but it has since reopened.
