Man dies after catching fire in Florida mall parking lot

A man died after he caught on fire in a Florida parking lot on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, the Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the Port Charlotte Town Center Mall, where they found a man with “burns over his entire body.”

A medical helicopter was called to the scene; however, just as the helicopter was landing, the man went into cardiac arrest.

Due to the lack of space for CPR in the helicopter, the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance, NBC affiliate WBBH reported.

The man, who has not yet been identified, died shortly after. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the State Fire Marshal are investigating the incident.
