A man died after a collision with a Brightline train while driving a scooter on Thursday afternoon in Broward County.

According to Claudinne Caro, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office, dispatch learned of the crash at East Copans Road and North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach shortly after 12:45 p.m.

“BSO district deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded,” Caro wrote in a statement. “On scene, deputies learned a crash occurred between a Brightline train and the driver of a scooter.”

Fire rescue personnel reported taking the scooter rider to Broward Health North as a “trauma alert.”

“Paramedics transported the adult male to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” Caro wrote in a statement.

The Brightline train remained stopped on the tracks shortly after 1:30 p.m. There was crime scene tape around the scooter.

“BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this crash,” Caro wrote in a statement sent to Local 10 News shortly after 3:50 p.m.

This is a developing story.
