A man died after a fight Saturday at an apartment in Temple Terrace, according to police.
Police were called to an apartment on West Riverchase Drive early Saturday morning, where the victim was found face down with a knife next to him, according to an arrest affidavit.
Joseph Cardenas, 42, reportedly told police that he and the victim, who had been dating for two years, got into an argument because he was jealous that the victim was never home, according to the affidavit.
Cardenas said that the fight escalated when he tried to grab a paycheck and leave the home, police said. He said the victim put a sharp object next to his neck from behind.
Cardenas allegedly slammed the victim to the floor, but said he didn’t hit him and doesn’t remember how he ended up on the floor unresponsive. The victim was taken to a hospital where he later died, police said.
Cardenas was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
The investigation remained ongoing.
