Man dies after five-vehicle crash on I-75

A man died after a crash Friday involving four other vehicles on Interstate 75 in Pasco County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 3:15 p.m., a 69-year-old Longboat Key man was driving his Tesla Model S south on the interstate. Near milepost 277, the Tesla driver veered out of his lane and collided with a Ford F-150 being driven by a 43-year-old woman from Riverview.

FHP said that as a result of the collision, the Tesla was redirected and proceeded to collide with a third vehicle, a Toyota Corolla being driven by a 70-year-old man from Wesley Chapel.

The Toyota was then redirected and collided with a Peterbilt truck, driven by a 59-year-old man from St. Petersburg.

The Tesla, which had continued moving south following the first two collisions, then struck a fifth vehicle, a Volvo tractor-trailer being driven by a 31-year-old Tampa man.

FHP reported that the Tesla driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

All other drivers were uninjured.
