A man in his 20s who was found shot outside a car on Norwood Avenue early Friday morning died at the hospital, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Said.
JSO Sgt. S R said officers were called around 1:40 a.m. to a report that a person had been shot. They found the man lying behind a car on Norwood Avenue, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Paramedics took him to UF Health hospital, where he died from his injuries.
R said investigators learned from security that the man had been involved in an argument with unknown individuals in the parking lot of Elevation Lounge as several patrons were leaving the club at closing time.
The man then left the parking lot in a sedan with another man, and witnesses heard multiple gunshots as they were driving away, JSO said.
According to R, the car has several bullet holes, and it’s unclear if the shooting took place in the car or if the car was shot into. He said it’s also unclear if the victim or the other man was the driver.
They are still searching for the second man and will be towing the car to their warehouse to process it for evidence, he said.
R said they are also looking to speak with the owner of the vehicle, who does not match the description of either of the men who were in the car on Friday morning.
R said many of the witnesses in the parking lot left the scene before investigators arrived, and JSO is asking them to contact the Sheriff’s Office to help with the investigation.
