A person died and another was detained in connection to a shooting in Tampa on Thursday.

The shooting happened at around 10:20 a.m. at the Silver Oak Apartments, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Police arrived to find a victim, described as a black man in his early 20s, who was receiving first aid from security personnel. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Another man, also described as a black man in his early 20s, was detained at the apartment complex. Police said he has been cooperating with their investigation.

Officers recovered the gun believed to have been involved in the shooting.

Tampa police said the people involved knew each other and that, according to preliminary information, the shooting does not appear to be a random act. It may “have stemmed from an escalating domestic dispute.”

The shooting is under investigation. It is not known what charges, if any, the detained person faces in connection to the incident.
