Man dies while diving off Juno Beach shore.

A man is dead after diving near a reef off the shore of Juno Beach.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that on Wednesday, Jupiter Police Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission personnel responded to the area of Captain Mike’s reef, located about six miles offshore of Juno Beach, for a missing diver.

According to the sheriff’s office, law enforcement learned that a dive charter from the Jupiter Diver Center went out for a dive tour around 9 a.m. Wednesday. Around 9:49 a.m., the divers entered the water and minutes later, a 14-year-old male came back up to the surface yelling for help.

The sheriff’s office said the 14-year-old boy told the captain and the crew that his father, Kenneth Lowery, was dead at the bottom of the ocean as his father did not have a regulator and was unresponsive.

Law enforcement officials were then contacted, and the crew began a search.

Around 90 minutes later, Lowery was discovered and was declared dead at 11:30 a.m.

The Jupiter Police Department transferred the body to Waterway Park. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the man was visiting the area.
