A man in his 50s died after a crash on Jacksonville’s Southside.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it happened just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Monument and Lee Roads.

A man in his 50s was driving a Kia SUV west on Monument Road when he went to make a left turn onto Lee Road, JSO said.

A woman in her 30s was driving a Jeep east on Monument when she collided with the Kia.

Her vehicle overturned into a retention pond without water.

She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The man was also taken to the hospital, but he died from his injuries.

JSO does not believe that speed was a factor in the crash.

Police said that this crash marks the 141st traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
