A man was hospitalized and his small dog died after a fire erupted Monday night at a home in Dania Beach, first responders confirmed.
According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, the fire was reported at about 9:45 p.m. in the 2600 block of Southwest 54th Place.
Firefighters said a neighbor across the street initially reported the incident.
“Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home,” BSFR said in an email to Local 10 News. “Crews immediately initiated a fire attack while simultaneously conducting a search and rescue operation.”
According to BSFR, a man was found inside the home and was transported to nearby hospital. His condition has not been released.
Firefighters confirmed that a small dog was found inside a kennel in the home and did not survive.
“More than 35 BSFR personnel responded to the scene along with firefighters from Hollywood Fire Rescue,” BSFR said. “The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes, successfully preventing flames from spreading to adjacent homes.”
The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
