Man in wheelchair dies in hospital after being struck by two cars near Normandy Boulevard: JSO

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man died Tuesday night after he was hit by two cars on Jacksonville’s Westside.

Police said the man, who was in a wheelchair, was in the center of Old Gainesville Road around 8:15 p.m. when another man hit him with his Toyota.

The impact of the crash sent the man into the eastbound lanes of the roadway, where he was then hit by a second car, police said.

The man died at the hospital.

JSO said this crash marks the 124th traffic death to occur in Duval County this year and is the 28th involving a pedestrian.

Both drivers involved in the crash remained at the scene and are cooperating with police.

The roadway is expected to be shut down for about 45 minutes, police added.

Sergeant Hungerford noted that the roadway where the crash occurred is not well-lit.
