A man was arrested after driving under the influence and crashing into the back of a truck early Monday morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Water Avenue at 2:43 a.m. and discovered a man pinned inside his Dodge Ram truck that collided with a tree.
According to HCSO, during an investigation, it was revealed that Howard Cruz Denis, 33, was driving westbound on Waters Avenue and rear-ended the victim’s truck at a high speed, pushing the truck into a tree.
C D showed signs of impairment, and a DUI investigation was conducted, deputies said.
The victim was transported to the hospital with serious lower leg injuries but is expected to recover.
“This crash is a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving,” said Sheriff C C. “Driving under the influence is a choice that puts lives at risk. We are thankful the victim is expected to recover, and we urge everyone to make responsible decisions to keep our roads safe.”
C D was arrested and charged with DUI with serious bodily injury, deputies said.
