A 61-year-old man was killed Monday when a tow truck barreled into cars waiting at a red light in Boca Raton, sparking a chain-reaction crash, police said.
The Boca Raton Police Department’s (BRPD) Service Department’s Traffic homicide Unit said it is investigating a deadly Monday crash on the 5800 block of N Federal Highway.
Just before 12:30 p.m., officers say a Jeep Cherokee, a Hyundai Elantra, and a Ford Escape were stopped at a red light at Jeffrey Street.
At the same time, a tow truck was traveling northbound on N Federal Highway when it failed to stop for the vehicles, causing a pile-up, according to the crash report. The tow truck collided with the back of the Ford Escape, which pushed into the Elantra, which collided with the back of the Cherokee.
The driver of the Ford Escape, 61-year-old MD, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to BRPD.
Officers say that the two occupants of the Hyundai Elantra were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police urge anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer Williams at (561) 982-4052.
