Man killed when car hits curb, tree on Beach Boulevard exit from Kernan Boulevard

Man killed when car hits curb, tree on Beach Boulevard exit from Kernan Boulevard

A man in his mid-30s died early Friday morning in a crash at the intersection of Beach and Kernan boulevards, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash shut down the off-ramp to eastbound Beach from northbound Kernan for hours.

JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said the crash was reported around 4:30 a.m. Friday and that the driver died at the scene.

Hungerford said skid marks and a debris field indicate the driver misjudged the exit ramp from northbound Kernan Boulevard onto eastbound Beach Boulevard. He said the Nissan SUV struck a curb, veered off to the east and then hit a tree.

It’s possible speed was a factor in the crash, Hungerford said.

This marks the 74th traffic fatality in Jacksonville this year.
