A man was killed and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday night in a crash near the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and Park Street on Jacksonville’s Westside, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to JSO, a Honda SUV and a Honda Accord collided in the southbound lanes of Blanding Boulevard just past Park Street around 9:51 p.m., sending the SUV down a heavily wooded 40-foot embankment on the west side of the road.

The driver of the Accord, a man in his 30s, appeared to have been ejected from the car. He died at the scene.

The woman, who is in her mid-40s, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Sgt. Robert Hungerford with the JSO Traffic Homicide Unit said officers searched the wooded area to be sure there were no other victims in the crash, and it appears only the two drivers were involved.

JSO said this was the 73rd fatality in a traffic crash this year in Jacksonville.
