Two people had to be rushed to the hospital after a fiery motorcycle crash cost one man his leg and partially amputated his arm on U.S. Highway 27 in Weston, according to authorities.
The crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday near Griffin Road, Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue said.
First responders said one of the victims was a man who had suffered “critical injuries, including a traumatic leg amputation and a partially amputated arm.”
He was flown by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Air Rescue team to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, authorities said.
A second adult patient suffered a shoulder injury, and they were taken by ambulance to the same hospital, fire rescue said.
Both of their injuries were described as life-threatening by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses on the scene captured video of the crash that is too graphic to show on air, but it shows both men on the ground. One can be seen with tourniquets around his arm and leg, and the other with bruising down his side.
They also said that both men were members of a motorcycle group.
Neighboring businesses said bikers sometimes race one another down that street, but authorities did not say that that’s what happened in this particular situation.
The crash is still under investigation.
