Man riding motorized bicycle killed in New Smyrna Beach hit-and-run, police say.

A man riding a motorized bicycle through New Smyrna Beach was fatally struck overnight in a hit-and-run crash, according to police.

The crash occurred between 8:15 a.m. Wednesday and 6:50 a.m. Thursday in the 3400 block of State Road 44, police said in a statement.

According to a news release from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, the victim — a 39-year-old man — was found unresponsive in a ditch and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that the man, while riding the bicycle, was struck by a vehicle that was then driven away from the scene, police said.
