A 44-year-old man was arrested at a mobile home park in Marion County after he allegedly struck another man with a baseball bat during an argument over $250.
On Sunday, July 20, at around 10:40 a.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office corporal responded to a mobile home park in Reddick in reference to a battery that had just occurred. The male victim advised that a man, identified as ADS, had hit him with a baseball bat, according to the arrest report.
The corporal noted in the report that S was observed standing in front of the incident location, and he was screaming at the victim over $250 being owed to him. As S was being detained in handcuffs, he allegedly began to pull away from the corporal while yelling that he was “not going to jail.”
The report stated that S proceeded to “tense up,” and the corporal used a “forward leg sweep” to bring S to the ground. S was then secured in handcuffs.
According to the victim’s statement, S came into the victim’s home while wielding a baseball bat. S then confronted the victim regarding $250 that had allegedly been stolen from him.
The victim stated that he left the residence to call law enforcement. S allegedly followed the victim outside and swung the bat, striking the upper portion of the victim’s back. In the report, the corporal mentioned that the victim had a “cylindrical red mark” on his back, near his spine.
The corporal spoke with a witness who corroborated the victim’s statement.
S refused to speak with the corporal about the incident and advised that he was “going to jail.” He was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail. The following day, he was released after posting bond, and he is facing the following charges: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
On Tuesday, August 19, S is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
