Man suffers severe injuries after being struck by Brightline train in Vero Beach

A man was left with severe injuries after being struck by a Brightline train in Vero Beach on Sunday night.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reported that around 6 p.m., deputies received reports of an accident involving a Brightline train and a pedestrian at the 8th Street railroad crossing.

IRCSO confirmed that the pedestrian, an adult male, was on the tracks when the crash happened, he sustained severe injuries and was flown to a trauma center.

According to officials, the collision occurred at the crossing between U.S. Highway 1 and Old Dixie Highway.

Deputies and railroad officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
