Man wielding metal pipe injures teenage boy in Sweetwater: Police

A man used a metal pipe to beat up a teenage boy who was waiting to cross the street on Sunday night in Sweetwater, police said.

The teen flagged down a police officer along Southwest 107 Avenue, just north of West Flagler Street, and reported that a very tall man had tried to rob him.

Deputies found the teen’s attacker still armed with the pipe and identified him as JR, according to an arrest report in the case.

R, 30, who had an active warrant for domestic violence, dropped the pipe, but he resisted arrest and spit at a lieutenant, according to the report.

Inmate records show Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office correctional deputies booked R, who is 6 feet, 3 inches tall, on Monday morning at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center.

R faced charges of resisting an officer with violence to his person, battery on a police officer, attempted armed robbery, and aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
