A 41-year-old Marion County man with a prior battery conviction has been arrested after allegedly attacking his brother inside their home during an argument over a marijuana joint.
On Friday, December 26, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a local residence in reference to a domestic altercation involving two brothers, according to the arrest report.
Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the male victim who advised that he had confronted his brother, Daniel Author Runk, after discovering that $30 was missing from his wallet. The victim stated that his wallet was located on the kitchen counter at the time.
When the victim confronted Runk about the missing money, Runk allegedly told the victim, “(Expletive) you and everything you stand for.” The victim told the deputy that he proceeded to grab two packs of cigarettes off the kitchen counter, one of which contained $20 in cash, according to the report.
Runk then allegedly “got mad” because he was unable to find a “marijuana joint,” which led to an argument between the siblings. During that verbal altercation, Runk allegedly threw a cellphone at the victim before striking him several times in the face and body.
According to the victim’s statement, Runk proceeded to instruct his dog to bite the victim, and the dog responded by biting the victim’s left leg several times. Runk then allegedly pushed the victim against the wall, bit the right side of the victim’s neck, and pressed his left forearm against the victim’s throat for approximately one minute.
The victim further alleged that Runk grabbed a mop handle and used it to hit the victim a few times. The report stated that the altercation ended when the victim grabbed a nearby hammer and contacted law enforcement.
The deputy noted in the report that the victim’s left leg had “several fresh puncture marks with blood.” In addition, the victim had “a clear bite mark on his right collar bone area, scratches on the right side of his face, several bruises on his arms, a small laceration above the right cheek bone, and redness on the right side of his neck.”
A criminal history search of Runk revealed that he was previously convicted of battery in Brevard County nearly eight years ago.
On Monday, December 29, Runk was located, placed under arrest, and booked into Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody. His bond has been set at $5,000, and he is being charged with domestic battery by strangulation and domestic battery (second or subsequent offense).
Jail records show that Runk is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3.
