Marion woman claims self-defense after stabbing man with knife

Marion woman claims self-defense after stabbing man with knife

A 53-year-old Marion County woman was arrested this week after she allegedly charged at a man and stabbed him in the thigh with a large knife.

On Wednesday, September 17, at around 12:20 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a residence located on NE 142nd Place in Fort McCoy in reference to a man being stabbed, according to the arrest report.

The male victim stated that he was tending a fire outside the home when he got into an argument with a woman, identified as TMC.

During the verbal altercation, C allegedly ran at him while wielding a large kitchen knife that she had picked up nearby. The victim alleged that C then proceeded to swing the knife at his thigh, which prompted him to run away from her.

The report stated that a witness overheard the argument and recalled hearing the victim scream that he had been stabbed.

The deputy noted in the report that the victim had “an approximately three-and-a-half-inch shallow laceration across the front of his left thigh.” The victim was also “scratched up and covered with sand,” which indicated that the victim “fell as he scrambled to get away from (C).”

The deputy made contact with C. After being read her Miranda rights, C allegedly admitted to stabbing the victim in the thigh. However, she claimed that she was initially “pushed down and straddled” by the victim, which prompted her to “grab the nearby knife and stab the victim” in self-defense, according to the report.

During the post-Miranda interview, C allegedly “changed her story multiple times.” She also allegedly told the deputy that if she “wanted (the victim) dead,” she would have “stabbed him in the heart” instead of in the thigh.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

C was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail, where she remains in custody. Her bond has been set at $2,500, and she is being charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.

A court date for C has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
