A large house fire erupted on Fort Myers Beach along Avenida Pescadora Thursday evening.
According to Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Scott Wirth, crews received a call from a neighbor that someone was possibly grilling. However, Wirth said there was no cause at this time and couldn’t confirm that as the reason.
Officials said crews noticed a heavy column of smoke. The man at the home told crews he was grilling, went inside, and when he came out, the grill had caught the side of the house on fire. The flames then traveled.
Fort Myers Beach Fire said there were no injuries, and the man got out safely, but the house is a total loss.
The fire remains under investigation.
